According to Merriam-Webster, to dare is “to have the courage to contend against, venture or try.”
If there’s one trait about this co-op that I know, it’s our willingness to innovate and anticipate change on behalf of our members and community. We want to exceed your expectations in all that we do. Here’s what we’re doing in 2020 to dare to be different.
We will not be raising rates in 2020 or 2021. That will be four straight years without a rate increase. This is possible due to sound business practices our Board of Directors and employees have been following. We have deployed technology and worked to streamline processes that make us more efficient. In addition, we have worked hard to maintain a financially healthy co-op, utilizing access to low-cost capital.
Instead of simply maintaining the poles and wires over the years, we’ve been proactive with our maintenance. Utilizing drones for maintenance and outage restoration has proved to be cost-effective and proficient. This year, we will finish our goal of sectionalizing our entire local electric grid. In addition, we are constructing fiber to all substations and radio sites, which will help us better manage our electric grid and improve reliability.
Vision and Strategy
Over the past couple of years, I have shared our Vision 2020 Strategy Map. This map serves as a roadmap filled with strategic initiatives. Themes from PVREA’s mission statement leads the strategy framework: Safe and Reliable, Efficient Energy Solutions, and Exceptional Service. A solid plan and a guiding map help the co-op focus on our main goals, so we’re not stuck in a rut of doing “business as usual”. This year we will finish our Vision 2020 strategy and work with the Board of Directors on the implementation and deployment of another plan for the future.
80 by 30
We’re making headway on our “80 by 30” goal, which is to increase carbon-free energy sources from an estimated 33 percent in 2019 to 80 percent by 2030. This year we hope to create new products, services, and options for our members. PVREA continues to be an advocate for a Regional Transmission Organization (RTO) and is engaging in Tri-State Generation & Transmission’s Responsible Energy Plan. PVREA has launched a grassroots advocacy network where we will be asking employees, members and other folks in our local community to support pertinent legislation as it arises. We may need to call upon you before the next magazine is mailed to you, so make sure to sign up at www.pvrea.coop/grassroots or text GOCOOP to 52886 to get involved in our Co-op Grassroots network.
At PVREA, we dare to be different. We can do this is by thinking outside of the box, keeping our creativity and vision focused on our members, and coming up with innovative energy solutions. In 2020, we will dare to be different.
