As we start to see the colors change and the pumpkins put out on front porches, we’ll also see the weather start to dip into those cool, crisp fall days. Living in Colorado, we all get to enjoy the changing of each of the four seasons, but sometimes we don’t always enjoy the changes in our electric bill as the temperatures change and the cost to heat or cool our homes rise.
Understanding the impact of the weather and how we use electricity in our home can help reduce your energy use and limit increases to your bill without sacrificing comfort in your home. PVREA is always looking for ways to help our members save energy and money; we now provide free, home energy advisor tools. The Home Energy Advisor tool provides personalized information about your electric account right at your fingertips through email alerts, energy analysis tools, calculators, and bill explanations.
Your home and family are unique and so is your energy use. Members will start to receive personalized video bill explanations delivered by email if your bill increases more than a few dollars from the previous month. These informative personal video messages explain your home’s energy use compared to last month using your actual billing data. If there is an increase in your energy use, the video will explain what factors may have contributed to the increase. The video will point out the impact of the local weather, and the number of days in the billing period broken down in easy to understand dollar amounts. The explanation also includes other factors such as guests in the home or thermostat settings. Each video will contain recommendations on how to save and keep you informed about rebate offerings and programs.
You can take it a step further and fill out your home energy profile to learn exactly where your energy dollars are going and how you can save. You can also see the current weather’s direct impact on your energy use and costs. Based on your area’s 7-day weather, you can adjust a virtual thermostat for heating and cooling and see the daily dollar impact. Simply log into your PVREA online account and navigate to My Usage > Usage Management to begin your journey!
We wanted to bring another perk to your membership by putting real-time information about your electric use and account right at your fingertips.
