You can help prevent shocks around water before they happen by following these safety tips.

  • Use a qualified electrician for any new pool, hot tub or spa wiring.
  • Use covered, outdoor-rated GFCI-protected outlets and test them monthly.
  • Replace cracked covers, frayed cords, loose plugs, or damaged equipment.
  • Schedule periodic electrical inspections and upgrades for your equipment.
  • Have an electrician show you how to shut off all power in an emergency and make sure the shut-off switch is labeled.
  • Never touch any electrical appliances or outlets when you are wet or standing in water.
