Spring Safety Tips

Education
Array

As the days grow longer and warmer, we often find ourselves outdoors more often — working in the garden, completing honey-dos, or leisurely taking in the change of seasons. Learn how to keep yourself and your loved ones safe as we start this spring season.

STORM SAFETY

Heavy, wet snow can cause a downward force that loads power lines and tree branches – known as ‘snow loading.’ As it accumulates, falls off, or melts, it can trigger safety equipment that interrupts the supply of power. Learn what to do if you are without power by visiting our outages and safety page.

YARD & SPRING-CLEANING SAFETY

Remember to always look up for overhead power lines. We always recommend a clearance of at least 10 feet between you or whatever you are carrying and the nearest power pole, power line, or other electrical equipment. Alternately, underground power lines must be considered when planning a new dig. Always call 811 before you dig to mark underground utilities.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TREE TRIMMING

Maintaining rights-of-way clearance through vegetation management is crucial in protecting our electrical system from hazards so we can ensure the safe and reliable delivery of electric service to you and our other members. Request tree trimming online here.
