United By Purpose, Powered By Community

PVREA News

As our nation approaches its 250th anniversary, we find ourselves reflecting on the enduring spirit that has carried America forward for generations.

Our spirit is rooted in everyday moments: apple pie cooling on a kitchen counter, time spent at grandma’s house, neighbors lending a hand, and in the extraordinary courage of ordinary people who believed in something greater than themselves.

Two and a half centuries ago, our founders envisioned a country built not on power or privilege, but on the shared purpose of self-governance, individual freedom, and responsibility to one another.

That same spirit would later shape the story of Colorado, as pioneers carved out communities in a rugged landscape, united by hope and determination.

And it is that very same spirit that brought electricity to rural America some 90 years ago when neighbors came together to form cooperatives, driven by that same timeless truth: when people unite, they can build a better future.

This summer, as we celebrate 87 years of our cooperative, 150 years of Colorado state pride, and 250 years of America, we honor that shared legacy. We are reminded that progress is never the work of one, but it is the result of many, standing together.

Few stories capture the American spirit as powerfully as the origin of our National Anthem. Written through a long night of uncertainty, then affirmed at daybreak by a flag still standing, it gave voice to our enduring resilience, unity, and hope. That same feeling lives on today when our Youth Tour students stand before Old Glory in Washington, D.C., seeing firsthand the ideals that continue to guide our great nation.

Moments like these call us back to our roots: when people come back together with shared purpose, they can accomplish extraordinary things. This resonates deeply within our cooperative, where connection, service, and community shape not only who we’ve been, but who we are and will be.

Like those who came before us, we’re entrusted with something greater than ourselves. Whether building a nation, shaping a state, or powering homes and businesses, our mission has always been the same: to create opportunity, strengthen community, and leave things better for the next generation.

As we look ahead, that mission continues to light our way. Because the story of America — and of this cooperative — is still being written, together.
